Events. There’s plenty on the calendar. Saturday at the store: come witness “Beats, Rhythms & Loops,” with live performances by VHVL, Brain Orchestra and God’s Touch playing from 1-3 PM. Then at 7, JC musicians Fish & Kuz (of Smoke And Mirror Routine) perform a special acoustic set of their catalog. Of course the Jersey City Record Riot is this Sunday (Grove Street PATH Plaza, 9 AM-6 PM), 40 tables of amazing vinyl and CDs (plus great DJs). We’ve also got a big program planned forSaturday July 20th: “Bring The Beat Back,” strictly 45s with DJ Porno, Mr. Len, Fatha Ramsee (brought to you by the United Diggers Federation). These guys are quite funky and are not to be missed. Alain Cliche On The Residents! “Outsider Among Outsiders”

Posted on June 10th, by irisrecords in Uncategorized. No Comments

I discovered The Residents in 1981. At the time, I was doing radio with my friend André at CKRL, a community radio station in Quebec City. The purpose of the program was to cover the alternative scene. We spent our nights playing New Wave, punk, reggae, ska, industrial and just about everything that nowadays is included in the “post-punk” genre. As I said in my book, Normal, PIL was our worship group. We liked its weird side and that’s probably what got us into The Residents. Click to hear a sample.

    Commercial Album – 1980

The first album that André bought is Commercial Album, a record of forty pieces of one minute each. We did play a “4-5 blow” and mixed it with other weird stuff. We didn’t tire of this minimal-sounding record ; each piece having a theme that stops just when you start to get … Read More »

    Beats, Rhythms, and Loops!!!

Posted on June 9th, by irisrecords in Uncategorized. No Comments

We’re back for the 3rd round of Beats, Rhythms, and Loops!!! This time we’re joined by VHVL, Brain Orchestra, and Gods Touch. VHVL is inspired by “the founding mothers of electronic music” and most recently put out a split cassette with Ras G on Leaving Records. Brain Orchestra is a hip hop producer from New Jersey. He’s self-released several beat tapes through his band camp and his blissed out beats linger somewhere between classic 90’s hip hop and the ethereal. Gods Touch offers up hard knockin’ beats with a lo fi feel. Easily something you’d hear while watching your favorite anime movie.

    1-3 PM
